nice drive so far if you are driving from antioch to concord. right now is a good time to do that. this mornings commute is pretty good if you are driving on the san mateo bridge. yesterday was a bad day but today is good. it is a big weekend in san francisco with more than a million people expected to pack the streets. tara moriarty is in the city with more on why you should expect big delays. >> reporter: we are here near pier 29 where come this weekend one northbound lane will be shut down from the ferry building all the way to bay street. that will allow emergency vehicles access in through the crowds. if you pan to the left, you can see we're in front of the official america's cup store. the cup is expected to draw 40,000 people this weekend to watch the races. and there are many more events planned. this will give city officials are a little bit of an idea of what to expect for the big america's cup next year where more than three million people

are expected to attend. over the skies of san francisco this weekend, you will see the beloved blue angels. the u.s. navy pilots have been making practice runs for the big show set for saturday and sunday. it's part of fleet week and the parade of ships is tomorrow. here's a look at the other events going on. the giants will take on the reds in the national league playoffs saturday and sunday. the hardly strictly bluegrass festival will take place in golden gate park. the 49ers will play the buffly bills on sunday and the italian heritage parade is on sunday. it's definitely going to be crowded. make sure you take mass transit if you are coming down here. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty. transportation agencies are gearing up for the busy weekend. and adding more services

starting tonight. bart will have up to a dozen special events trained and longer hours to accommodate the crowds. there will be three times as many ferries as usual in and out of the city and muni is adding services and shuttles going straight to the giants game. time now 5:02 overnight news two bart passengers robbed at gunpoint as they were stepping off a train. this happened at 11:30 last night at the coliseum bart station in the parking lot. now bart police say the victims were get into their cars when duosus -- two suspected gunmen walked up. they had canine police dogs with them. one of the suspects may have been bitten by the police dogs and taken to the hospital. the robbery victims were not hurt. there is new information this morning about a san jose principal accused of not reporting allegations of sexual abuse by a teacher.

the evergreen school district released notes showing a second grade student told the principal that a teacher blindfolded her and put something in her mouth. the principal should have reported that to the police and to child protective services. the teacher allegedly molested another student three months later and was arrested. if you have to fill up at the gas pump today expect sticker shock. the prices are going up. janine de la vega is live now to tell us how much gas prices have gone up just overnight and what is causing all of this. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. here at this arcco price of regular unled is $4.29 a gallon. across the street it's $0.16 higher. across the street the prices have jumped dramatically. that is a problem unique to california. let's take a look specifically at san jose. according to aa fuel gauge

report -- aaa fuel gauge report a week ago it was $4.16. yesterday was $4.38. and today the average is $4.54. in a week gas prices have jumped $0.38. this all stems from supply problems. the chevron refinery fire in richmond is producing at a reduced capacity a chevron pipeline that moves crude oil from northern california was recently shut down. >> over the last week or so there has been a couple other problems. i think the most serious one was the one at the exxon mobile refinery that seemed to be sort of the straw that broke the camels back. and that is when prices jump took off. >> reporter: analysts say california's gas is at the lowest level in ten years. what doesn't help is the states strict pollution. while prices here in the bay

area are high it's even higher in los angeles with some stations have actually passed the $5 mark. a few of the station owners have actually shut down the pumps rather than charging the higher price to break even. reporting live in san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. in election news this morning republican presidential nominee mitt romney is talking about his controversial comments on the 47%. >> i was completely wrong. and i believe however that my life has shown that i care about it 100%. >> video surfaced of romney showing nearly half of americans americans are victims depending on the government. the obama campaign is

year-old daughter during a shoplifting attempt is now in jail. here is new booking photos of marcy erico. she fled to nevada after abandoning her daughter while trying to shoplift at a morgan hill safeway last month. her daughter is staying with her grandmother now. child protective services is making arrange thes to -- arrangements to bring back her 11-month-old son from nevada. the mail theft happened sometime between wednesday afternoon and thursday morning at skyline boulevard and bear gulch road. now people are worried they will use the stolen mail to steal their identities. three people are expected back in court today for jewelry scams targeting elderly chinese women. this is surveillance video of an incident in san francisco. police say the scammers told the victims to put their jewelry in a bag to ward off bad spirits and took off with

the jewelry. the preliminary hearing for the women charged in the case is expected to finish today. each woman has been charged with seven san francisco and san jose were supposed to have dozen of electric cabs by now, but there are no electric yellow cabs yet. san francisco municipal transportation agency received a $7 million grant for the program. so far none of the money has been spent on battery swapping stations or electric cars. that network is now scheduled to be up and running sometime next year. now back over to sal. how is traffic? >> it's doing well. nice and early commute rise. we are looking at interstate 880 in oakland. that traffic is moving along very nicely with no major problems. it's a nice looking drive continuing past the coliseum.

they are bracing for big crowds this weekend. more than a million people are expected to fill the streets and roads. several high profile events including the america's world cup series just to name a few. city leaders hope this might show who is to come for the big america's cup event next year. they are expecting three million people in san francisco. oh yeah and then there is this. looking up in the skies over san francisco this afternoon. you may get a glimpse of the famous navy blue angels. the pilots are making practice runs. they will give you a sneak peek ahead of the big show tomorrow and sunday. all a part of fleet week. the parade of ships that comes tomorrow. now here's a look at just some of the many events happening in san francisco this weekend. of course you have the giants playing the cincinnati reds and the national league playoffs that is saturday and sunday. then there is the hardly

strictly bluegrass festival. that is happening in golden gate park. the 49ers will be hosting the buffalo bills on sunday. the italian heritage parade is happening in north beach on sunday. playoff fever is hitting bay area baseball fans really hard as you know. both teams are playing in playoff games this weekend. the fans are just geeked. coming up at 5:45 we'll take a look at how local businesses are benefiting from the great season the ark's and giants have had. to avoid gridlock people are being urged to take public transportation. alex savidge is in oakland as local transit agencies are gearing up for the this weekend. alex. >> bart spokesman told me they are preparing for a record breaking weekend in terms of ridership as people head out to the baseball games, the big concerts, or boat races. bart is prepared they say for those big crowds. just a few hours later on this morning they will be adding extra cars and in anticipation

of all the events over the weekend, bart will be putting every available train car into service. that is around 600 of them. they will even be offering a dozen special event trains all timed to coincide with certain large events. extra station agents will also be on hand along with extra bart police officers. >> this is an all hands on deck event for bart to use a fleet week expression. we'll have more train cars out there. we'll have more station agents, more train operators. everybody is working this weekend who can basically so we can get the bay area moving. >> reporter: meantime in san francisco muni will be adding extra trains and buss to certain lines on saturday and sunday. a special focus will get people to and from the giants home playoff games. and things will be crowded out on the bay as well with a whole lot more ferries shuttling passengers into the city. the san francisco bay ferry will triple its normal capacity between the east bay and san francisco. if you plan to take a ferry

reservations are recommended. of course as we come back here live no reservations needed for bart, but we are told by the spokesperson it's a good idea to show up early especially if you want to park at one of the stations. they expect packing to be at a premium. live this morning in oakland alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. on our website ktvu.com we have posted summaries on some of the big events this weekend. you can go to the front page and look for the section entitle the hot topics. drive by shooting tonight in san jose injured one man. it happened on roberts avenue at about 11:00 last night. the man was hit in the nose and the hand. the injuries are not considered to be life threatening. a woman is in custody after leading sheriffs deputies on a wild chase through the east bay. now her car ran several red lights on east 14th street from

san leandro to oakland last night when she got to the end of the street she turned around and went the other way. now she was finally stopped at 61st avenue. that chase lasted almost a half hour. very intense search is happening now in the lake tahoe area for an inmate that escaped just hours before he was due in prison. authorities say a judge granted anthony katello a three hour release to take care of his personal business before he was transferred from jail to prison. he was asked to be driven to a hospital in south lake tahoe. that is where authorities say he escaped. he was due in prison on charges of spousal battery. new this morning from overseas an american man opened fire at a hotel in israel killing a hotel chef following a reported dispout. police killed the gunman that had be working at the hotel as a work study program that brings jews to israel. the only information they are

releasing is that this man was from new york. patients in 23 states are being warned that injections they received for back pain may have been contaminated with fun gal meningitis. the health department claims the steroids were shipped to facilities in los angeles and mendocino counties. 36 people have contracted it. five people have died. >> first time i have ever seen anything like this, i have been safely giving steroid injections for 22 years and never seen this or heard of anything like this. >> symptoms of fungal meningitis are slurred speech, walking funny. officials say it appears the man contracted rabies after

coming in contact with a bat. he died this past july while in switzerland. they have identified 59 people that may have come in contact with that man. 23 have been given rabies shots. time now 5:36. in case you haven't noticed gasoline prices have been shooting up in the bay area and all over california. janine de la vega is live this morning to tell us how hay hie the prices have gone up and the reason why. >> reporter: good morning, dave. people with spoke with this morning are frustrated. they are coming to this air koa -- arco because it's on the lower side. on gasbuddy.com we found a gas station in cupertino that was selling gas for $5.39. the cost of gas in california hassish creased dramatically this week.

that in los angeles the prices are even higher. some gas station owners are shutting down their pumps because they don't want to charge the higher prices just to break even. let's check in with sal. 5:38 is the time. how is traffic? >> good morning. traffic is still doing pretty well. in most areas. we haven't seen a lot of problems out there. we've had minor crashes that weren't causing any slow downs really. let's take a look at 80 westbound. no major problems here. it's a nice looking drive all the way through. it is getting a little more crowded here. although there is not a backup just yet. if you are driving on 80 a little farther up that traffic is off to a start. as it moves toward us it has enhanced that high cloud deck

and low cloud deck. our cooling trend continues. and it will be for inland areas. it started on the coast. bay, yesterday and even away from the coast. fleet week forecast giants, forecast, parade, whatever you are doing kind of partly sunny, partly cloudy 60s. low an high clouds. breezy to windy at times. we are focusing on inland temps today. they will continue to drop off. 50s and 40s on the temps to 60 degrees. there is still a westerly component. sfo out toward fairfield and travis. and vacaville. our concern is this guy right there. as it inches closer to us. it will be here all the way into the weekend and early next week. partly sunny and partly cloudy. breezy, cool to chilly. the morning lows on the cool

medical marijuana collective. he said he once had 30 plants but now there ask only ten. albany police are releasing new information in the popular middle cool teacher accused of molesting students. he was taken into custody and after posting bond committed suicide monday morning. his supporters accuse officers of hastily arresting him and ruining his reputation but police have released key details about their investigation and say several girls accused him of molestation. police say they responded quickly to ed of moles -- evidence of molestation. students were pepper sprayed on campus. officials say two girls started fighting and four more girls jumped in. and dozens of students crowded around to watch the fight. a school police officer used pepper spray to break up the

fight. paramedics ended up treating about 47 effected students for burning eyes and trouble with their breathing. school officials will now investigate the use of that pepper spray. cupertino the city will fly its city flag at half staff today. they are marking the first anniversary of the death of steve jobs. this is video of steve job's last public appearance at a cupertino city council meeting. this was a month before he died. that is where he laid out his plan for apples new circular headquarters building. mayor mark says flying the flag at half staff is a small reminder of the impact steve jobs had on the community. it's a depressing time for san jose sharks fans. the national hockey league has canceled the first two weeks of the regular season due to the players lockout. the sharks will miss at least five games including three home games. the owners and players remain split over revenue sharing and

no new talks are scheduled. the bay area has baseball playoff fever. it's paying off big for a lot of local businesses too. hotels are already booked up in san francisco. part of it has to do with the playoff game between the giants and the cincinnati reds. some are paying up to $500 a night for hotel rooms. and in the east bay businesses are getting ready for big crowds as well since the a's will play the tigers in detroit which will have a lot of people going to restaurants to watch the game. >> we'll be packed. we are lucky we have an outdoor patio we can put people out there. we have a big screen tv out there on the patio. >> we are talking a bay series going on. if that happens, what else can you do but root for both of them? i mean we are talking two awesome games. >> a big rally will be held at noon for the giants right in front of at & t park. the first pitch for the giants tomorrow 6:30.

in place. our area of low pressure is finally moving toward us. as it does that means temperatures started moving down. fleet week forecast just lump everything in together. temperatures near the city upper 50s and low 60s. there will be some breaks later on. the low is getting closer. it could give us showers late sunday into early monday. we'll tackle that when we meet again. temperature drop today is for those way inland that don't get much of a sea breeze. 40s and 250s to -- 40s and 50s and 60s. southwest wind or westerly breeze component pretty much in place here for most. this little low right there you can see it's starting to enhance a little bit. keep an eye on that. that will play right into our weekend. it's coming right over us. partly sunny and cloudy. a cool morning. chilly out there.

stunned investors when it announced it will post a lost in the last quarter. zynga is behind the games including farmville and mafia wars. there is a new boy scout controversy in the bay area where a young man is blocked from becoming an eagle scout and what sex has to do with it. rushing to a rescue after a school bus crashes in texas. the reason the concern was especially high for the passengers.

good morning. a lot of low and high clouds. mostly cloudy here this morning. kind of cool too. it will be partly sunny, partly cloudy. three people recovering from this school bus crash in san antonio, texas. the bus plunged 15 feet down off a freeway overpass. investigators say a car cut off that school bus. the driver then lost control and then went off the road. that school bus by the way is for special needs children. only a seven-year-old and two adults were on board though. the adults suffered possible fractures. the child only had cuts and bruises. if you are flying american airlines you may want to check the status of your flight before head together airport. american is canceling dozens of

flights because of seats that have been coming loose while the plane is in flight. 44 flights are canceled today. 50 flights were canceled yesterday. all the planes should be back in service tomorrow. moraga teenager says his lifetime dream to become an eagle scout is denied because he is openingly gay. ryan joined the scouts when she was six years old and worked toward the ultimate scouting honor ever since. the final project was guiding students at joaquin middle school in building a tolerance wall. a visual reminder against bullying. but his scout master refused to sign off on the project. now the community is weighing in on the controversy. >> it's hard. i can't really say it's a right or wrong. it's not a right or wrong. it's a matter of perspective. >> i hope the community is better than that. i hope the eagle scouts are better than that. >> ryan's mother has started a petition on change.org to get
